Sojourn

I stayed in a house far away
Atop a hill, beside the stream
Beautiful as much as it was
‘Twas but a temporary stay.

I stayed in your arms the whole day,
Cocooned in your withering warmth,
Secure in those misleading words
‘Twas but a temporary stay.

I stayed there, on the ground I lay
Gazing at the stars up above
My world frozen at a standstill
‘Twas but a temporary stay.

I stayed as my life changed from gray
Fading past, realising that
My home wasn’t the house on the hill
‘Twas but a temporary stay.
